A Break from Alcohol for 66 Days – Could YOU Do It? (Newzroom Africa Interview)

Tribe Sober founder, Janet Gourand, is encouraging sobriety in order for people to enjoy the joy of alcohol-free living.

According to research, 20% of social drinkers will become dependant over the years and it’s important just to test your dependency.

This is a very difficult one for some people who really have a close relationship with their liquor. But I suppose the lockdown period and the hard measures that were put in place to restrict the sale of alcohol could have helped.

Maybe. There are two angles from the lockdown: people who drank moderately within the safe limits (which are amazingly just a bottle and a half of wine or 6 beers a week – not a night, a week) – just didn’t bother with going out and finding alcohol when it was banned.

But people who did have a bit of a dependency issue went out and stocked up big time. So, many people have actually become more dependent over the lockdown and we’re saying to people, “Take a break, it’s spring, it’s summer!” See it as a health kick and just see if you can do it for 66 days. But if you can’t do it, then you need to do the challenge!
